The Russell Partnership:  case studies:  Government & Corporate:  BBC:

BBC

The BBC exists to enrich people’s lives with great programmes and services that inform, educate and entertain. Its vision is to be the most creative, trusted organisation in the world.

Based in London from a number of locations, BBC services are hugely popular and used by over 90% of the UK population every week.

The BBC has recently appointed Johnson Controls to manage all the FM services for the UK, and the Russell Partnership has been commissioned to review the current catering operations across the London Estate and to advise and plan the future catering strategy for both existing and future buildings.

In terms of the existing catering, a total of 41 catering operations within 16 locations were assessed and benchmarked.

As may be expected in a diverse organisation such as the BBC, the building locations, profile of employees and their associated food and drink requirements are all slightly different. In determining future catering requirements, we undertook extensive customer research at a number of the locations. Following this we developed a series of integrated catering strategies with each strategy tailored to the specific needs of each location. For each location this included developing a demand model which identified future usage for different styles of catering; defining the future mix of catering offers; concept option development and undertaking both detailed space and income models.
